NEW! BMW MOA Beautiful Balkans Adventure - May 10–24, 2014
BMW MOA Beautiful Balkans Adventure 2014 will introduce you to a part of Europe too often overlooked by Western travelers—the Balkans, an ancient region of unparalleled cultural diversity, iconic historic sites, stunning landscapes, nice people and fantastic riding. We will cover a lot of ground, but there will be ample time, including three rest days (Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, Hvar) to relax by the beautiful Adriatic Sea and sample mouthwatering Mediterranean cuisine and wines, shops, galleries and museums of the region.
Our 1,600-mile ride starts in Ljubljana, the lovely medieval capital of Slovenia and Adriatic Moto Tours’ headquarters. After riding south through the lush farmland and forests of southeast Slovenia, we will enter Croatia and visit Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The next day we’ll cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina, surely one of the least discovered tourist destinations in Europe. Our day of rest will be in beautiful Sarajevo, the most Oriental city in Europe. From Sarajevo, we will ride another lightly traveled, beautiful touring route to Mostar, famous for the Ottoman-inspired Mostar Bridge. Following that we head for Montenegro and the breathtaking mountains of Durmitor National Park and the Tara River Canyon. Leaving the Tara River, we descend a steep, switchback-laced cliff to the Adriatic coast for a layover in the lovely, medieval-walled City of Dubrovnik, “Pearl of the Adriatic.” Traveling north from Dubrovnik along the azure Adriatic, hugging the rocky, twisting coastal road, we will arrive at the verdant Island of Korcula, abundant with vineyards and olive groves. Our last destination and rest stop before returning will be neighboring Hvar Island, inhabited since pre-historic times and once a Greek colony, now resplendent in lavender and rosemary fields, olives and grapes, shops and seafood restaurants serving Mediterranean and Adriatic delicacies.
This is our first and favorite motorcycle tour, now enhanced by the addition of a stay in Korcula. Come ride with us next year—our 10th anniversary. The Balkans is our backyard; we know the roads, the languages, the history and the must-see destinations. Let us show you a region of contrasts, of beauty, of culture and history, all of which will delight even the most jaded traveler. What could be better than that?
